Connect your first Markdown folder

Thortiq works with a normal folder of Markdown files. The folder is the source of truth; the app is the workspace around it.

1. Choose where you want to work

Install the desktop app for macOS, Windows or Linux, or explicitly open the browser app. The desktop experience is the simplest option when you want to work directly with a folder on your computer.

Choose a desktop download

2. Connect a folder

Select an existing Markdown folder or create a new empty one. Treat that folder as live user data: it can contain valuable notes and assets, and Thortiq will read and write within it as you work.

Your files stay portable.

Notes use Markdown, so they remain readable in a text editor and other compatible tools.

3. Create a note

Add a note from the workspace and give it a clear name. Write in Markdown, then connect related notes with links, properties and tags as your system grows.

4. Add sync only if you need it

Thortiq works locally without an account or network connection. Optional sync is account-gated and end-to-end encrypted: clients encrypt before sending, and the service does not receive your plaintext vault content or vault key.
